Our Team & Philosophy

Note: This section was added in response to community questions. The references to being Republicans are not a political statement. They are included to reflect the conservative values that shape our approach: we believe in discernment — carefully choosing what is good and bad rather than accepting everything uncritically. This applies directly to our software philosophy: we curate, test, and select every component in AcreetionOS rather than bundling everything blindly. Being a Republican, in this context, means we value independence, personal responsibility, fiscal discipline, and individual liberty — principles that translate into repository sovereignty, minimal bloat, and user freedom. Our politics are our own, but our focus is on building great software for everyone, regardless of background.

AcreetionOS is led by two Republicans who believe that software development should transcend partisan divides while remaining grounded in core values. Our team is proof that diversity of experience can drive innovation:

Darren CliftCo-Lead Developer (Traditional Republican)
Natalie Cole-Clift SpivaCo-Lead Developer (24, Trans Girl, Republican)

People often ask how a Trans Girl can be a Republican. To us, the answer is simple: Identity, religion, politics, and sexuality are separate things. One's personal identity or orientation does not dictate their views on governance, fiscal responsibility, or individual liberty. This separation is how it should be—allowing individuals to be their authentic selves while contributing to a shared vision for a better future through technology.

We don't care about our politics when it comes to helping our community. We are here to be honest about our background, but our focus is 100% on the work. We are here to build software and make the world a better place. No more pretending; we are who we are, and we're proud of it.

AcreetionOS is an approachable and user-friendly distribution based on the powerful Arch Linux core. Our mission is to bridge the gap between the power and flexibility of Arch and the simplicity that everyday computer users expect. We aim to make the Arch ecosystem accessible to a wider audience—from students and developers to casual desktop users—by providing a stable, pre-configured, and beautiful desktop experience right out of the box.

Beyond our main distribution, Co-Lead Developer Natalie Cole-Clift Spiva has also launched AcreetionOS Immutable (formerly ArttulOS)—a side project focused on absolute stability and a future where computing exists in the "greys," providing a seamless experience without the burden of constant choice.

This project is made possible by the incredible work of the Arch Linux developers and the broader open-source community. We see ourselves as curators, taking an already fantastic base and adding a layer of convenience, rigorous testing, and thoughtful design to create a cohesive and welcoming operating system for everyone.

Project Status & Community Evolution

Official Clarification: Independence & Integrity

To ensure our community and the broader Linux ecosystem have accurate information, we are issuing the following clarification: Ben Fitzpatrick, his team, and StormOS are not part of AcreetionOS, nor have they ever been. No hostility is meant by this statement; we simply wish to be technically and organizationally transparent.

There has been a notable amount of confusion due to a video by Jack Heifier that misrepresented AcreetionOS as being part of or affiliated with Ben’s team. We want to be clear that this was not Jack's fault. Jack reported on the information he had at the time, but the misrepresentation occurred because Ben did not communicate the project's boundaries properly. This lack of communication from Ben's side has further caused AI tools like Gemini to report an affiliation that has never existed. AcreetionOS is, and will always be, its own independent entity.

The Reality: A Two-Person Mission

It is important for our community to understand that AcreetionOS is currently run entirely by a father-daughter duo: Darren and his daughter Natalie. We manage the development, the infrastructure, the support, and the logistics out of our own pockets. While we are passionate and dedicated, we are human, and we need your support to reach our full potential.

The Long Road to Root

While our Discord server will always remain open, our planned migration to Root has been canceled due to concerns about the company. For now, we stick with Discord. If you're curious about the potential future of this project, check out .

How You Can Contribute

AcreetionOS is a community-driven project, and we welcome contributions from everyone. Because there are only two of us, your help is more than just "appreciated"—it's vital. Here are the primary ways you can help us grow:

  • Developers Wanted: We would love to have more developers jump on board! Whether you're a seasoned pro or just starting out, we accept all kinds of commits. If you want to help build the future of Linux, our doors are open.
  • Social Media Presence: We are looking for one or more volunteers to help us manage our social media. Our goal is to have a consistent presence—ideally two posts per day, five days a week. If you can help us tell our story to the world, please get in touch.
  • Testers & Documenters: We need eyes on our builds and hands on our guides. Help us find bugs and make our documentation the best it can be.
  • Advocates & Sponsors: Help us spread the word or provide resources like mirrors. Every bit of outreach helps us stay independent.
