geocode-glib update conflict resolved in acreetionos + acreetionos-xlibre
If you recently updated your AcreetionOS system and hit a wall with geolocation services, you are not alone. A dependency conflict between geocode-glib and its GLib counterpart was breaking location lookups for some users, and the community has already tracked it down and fixed it. The repair branch has been merged, and a specific fix for installed systems is now available, so your maps and time-zone detection should be back to normal.
Development The fix came from a community merge of the repair branch, targeting both fresh installs and existing systems. On the installer side, Darren (cobra3282000) has been busy in calamares-config-wayland, forcing Wayland as the default session and adding lightdm-slick-greeter to stop a display manager job crash that could freeze the first boot. He also adjusted the gfxmode to prefer 1080p over native 4K, which should prevent screen corruption on older NVIDIA hardware. For those who like to tinker, a new downgrade-desktop tool now lets you swap desktop environments without losing your data, and an initial ember-vulkan package has landed for better GPU acceleration.
Community Security updates dropped this Wednesday, covering AlmaLinux packages like bind9, dovecot, and kernel fixes. The Nix and Lix projects also disclosed local root-privilege-escalation vulnerabilities, so if you run either on your AcreetionOS machine, check their respective advisories and upgrade promptly. The changelog on our site has the full list of patched packages, and you can always find the latest ISO on the download page if you prefer a clean install.
Tip of the day If you are still running an older NVIDIA driver and your screen flickers on boot, try switching the default session to Wayland from the installer options. It is a small toggle that has saved a surprising number of first-boot headaches, and the slick greeter looks great while it is at it.
