Daily AcreetionOS Update -- August 29, 2026

geocode-glib conflict resolved in acreetionos + acreetionos-xlibre

The most pressing issue for our users this week was a package conflict involving geocode-glib, and I'm happy to report the 'repair' branch has been merged, fixing the update conflict for everyone. If you were held back from updating, you can now safely run your system updates. The fix is already rolling out.

Development On the CI side, Darren has been tuning the calamares-config, making the installer prefer 1080p gfxmode over native 4k on boot and removing disk encryption by default to simplify the initial setup. You can always enable encryption later if you want. Meanwhile, Natalie has been building out the us-infra-hub, adding an MCP stdio server and pinning archive checksums for v0.3.0, which is solid infrastructure work. The main acreetionos-code repo also saw a small fix to its release process, ensuring the CI passes -R to gh release create to avoid an unnecessary checkout step.

Community On the community front, there's a lot of interesting upstream news. Méven Car wrote a pair of blog posts on Dolphin 26.08 and KIO performance improvements that are worth a read if you care about desktop responsiveness. Also, Greg Kroah-Hartman announced eight stable kernel releases with a fix for a single vulnerability, so keeping your kernels current is as important as ever. Security updates have been issued by AlmaLinux, Debian, and Fedora this Friday, so check those if you run any of those distros alongside AcreetionOS.

Tip of the day If you run into any package conflicts like the geocode-glib one, the first place to check is the official changelog at https://acreetionos.org/changelog.html. It's the fastest way to see if a fix has landed and what the exact version bump is. For deeper dives into our development, the wiki at https://acreetionos.org/wiki.html is increasingly useful. And if you just want the latest ISO, it's always at https://acreetionos.org/flash.html.
